OZZY, SHARON OSBOURNE Slapped With Lawsuit Over MTV Show
July 26, 2002Ozzy Osbourne and his wife/manager Sharon are being sued by a Hollywood producer who claims he originated the idea for the couples' successful family reality show on MTV, according to Launch.
Producer Gary Binkow reportedly filed the lawsuit on Thursday, July 25th in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that in 1998, he conceived and developed the concept for a real-life docu-sitcom starring Ozzy Osbourne and his family, focusing on the story of an aging rock star who has come off the road and is trying to be a dad.
According to the lawsuit, Binkow came to the Osbournes the following year with the idea, and a deal was sealed in a meeting with Sharon Osbourne. Binkow also claims talks began with Miramax about producing a half-hour program with Osbourne in mind, and he continued pre-production activities through 2000 and met with the entire Osbourne family early that same year. He cites a show treatment from January 2000 titled Ozzie and Harried, and further discussions with Osbourne management for a pilot. The suit claims breach of oral contract, breach of implied contract and fraud.
Binkow has been involved with the production of feature films including Cider House Rules and The Bourne Identity. He is currently an executive producer of Neverland, which stars Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet and is shooting in London.
In other news, Ozzy and Sharon were recently interviewed by Greta Van Susteren of Fox News for the network's weekly show, Fox Magazine. The Osbournes edition of the program will air on Sunday, July 28th at 11:00 PM.
